Ready for winter break!

Everybody loves reading to Odin!

He's a very attentive listener!

Decorating gingerbread people.

All ready for the holidays!

Check out the kids with the clip boards.  The kids asked if they could do a survey like the older kids.  What a great idea!  Wow!  It was exciting for them and for me!  They gave a lot of thought to their question, everyone came up with one that was easily answered and relevant to them.  Next, we got out the clipboards and paired with the Shark class.  We went from class to class gathering data. Then came the hard work.  The children worked together to tally their data and the last step was graphing the information they had gathered.  What a great math experience!

It's exciting to be surrounded by kids that are excited about learning new things!

Frog and Toad

It's been a whirlwind of the arts this week!  We started out with a wonderful music program put together by our music teacher, Mrs. Blackwood.  The children looked adorable and it looks like we have some potential performers in our group.  The shining, smiling faces of the kids were heartwarming.  We only had one wardrobe malfunction during the evening and that just added to the charm of the event.  Not a case of stage fright to be seen!

At the end of the week we went to the Seattle Children's Theater.  We attended a performance of "Frog and Toad" in a beautiful, child friendly theater.  The children were mesmerized throughout the performance.  It was a beautiful day and a fun outing.

Kinda like a clubhouse.

There's something appealing about being under the desk.

Our record is 5 kids and 1 dog under the desk!

Ladybugs and "The Little Red Hen"

Preparations are underway for the holidays in the Ladybug room.  We've started making our decorations and put them up around the classroom.  Come in and check them out!

Grinding the wheat to make flour.

Chefs at work!

We made our own snack.

Getting ready for the music program.

Christmas wreaths

Working on matching lower and upper case letters.

What's happening here?  Lots of learning!  Working together,  measuring, pouring, sorting and classifying; it's all good!
This week we have been reading "The Little Red Hen".  If you haven't had a chance to read that story in a while, take a look at it.  It is a real moral dilemma for young children.  In the story, the hen does all the work while the other characters don't want to help.  When the bread is ready for eating, everybody is ready to help with the eating but the hen won't share.  The kids are divided on whether the hen should share or not.  It's a great conversation starter!

Sketching in the sunshine

This past week we had some beautiful weather.  The Ladybugs took advantage of the weather and went out into the neighbor to put our sketch books to use.  All of Seabury has sketchbooks this year.  The Sharks went along to show us the ropes.  We picked a neighborhood home with beautiful trees in the yard to sketch.

Our class bear, Teddy, went on his first home visit!
We spent some time this week working on equations.  The kids jumped right in when they saw the problems and pasta on the table.  It is so exciting to see the kids interested enough in what we are doing that they rush over to the table first thing in the morning.
