Learning about weather in the Ladybugs

Comparing more and less

We have been learning about all kinds of weather in the Ladybug class.  We did experiments to show how rain falls from the clouds and used prisms to make rainbows.  We've painted kites and rainbows and we're writing weather books.  In math, we're sorting and classifying objects using categories such as "longer and shorter", "bigger and smaller" and "more and less".

We love science!

Exploring polymers, gak is a very tactile material.

The beads in the water table will absorb 1 gallon of water, and they are fun to play with!

We used tubes and rain gutters to try out different properties of physics.

Does the ball roll faster if the gutter is steeper?

It works better if we all work together.

Will the ball roll down the gutter, through the tube and out the other side?

This was an art/math project we did with the Superstars and Sharks.  It was an exploration of probability and physics using different weights of paper dropped from various heights.

Science is everywhere,  everyone used different techniques to test their theories.

Sometimes, it's all in the way you stand!

Some of our returning students for next year,  they are all excited and looking forward to being Superstars!

Dr. Seuss Day

green eggs and ham

oobleck-it's messy stuff!

One of our friends thought the green eggs and ham just hit the spot!

At the end of our very busy week, we participated in the Read Across America Day that celebrates Dr. Seuss' birthday.  We made Cat in the Hat hats, read lots of books, watched a Dr. Seuss movie, made green eggs and ham and finally, played with oobleck!  The kids were exhausted! (Did I mention it was also pajama day?)

Science Fair

We have been focusing on science in the classroom for the last couple of weeks.  This week, it all came together.  The children brought in wonderful science projects for the Science Fair.  They shared what they had learned doing their experiments with the Ladybugs, parents and the other classes at Seabury.  It was an amazing thing to see!  One of the best parts of science fair is the support the older kids give to our youngest students.  It makes everyone feel good.  They make the nicest comments to our children.  It was a wonderful event!
